The Bi-Manu-Track therapeutic device is used by stroke patients to help restore their motor functions. Simplified movements activate selected nerve impulses that the brain allocates to common functions – from the time before the stroke, as it were. In so doing, the weakened half of the body (hemiparesis) is helped by the fact that the brain is particularly geared towards symmetrical or correlated hand movements.
The special challenge associated with developing the drive for the “Bi-Manu-Track” was the unknown torque to be reckoned with. Motion control is about controlling a motor designed for the particular load. Load reversal achieved by inputting active force can, however, be neglected in practice. However, with the “Bi-Manu-Track” robotic arm trainer it had to be kept in mind that the torque associated with a spastic hand can be several times greater than the output of the motor in normal operation. This complex challenge could only be met with special planetary gearhead Performax 52.2. In combination with the DC-motor, we were able to supply the ideal drive technology capable of meeting the stringent requirements. The planetary gearhead primarily stands out for its nominal output torque of 4.65 Nm as well as for its output speed of 158 min-1. Apart from being extremely durable (runs for around 5,000 hours), Performax 52.2 provides an impressive efficiency factor of n = 0.86.

Thanks to our gearhead, patients can absolutely rely on the “Bi-Manu-Track” robotic arm trainer to make a crucial contribution to the quick recovery of their motor functions by allowing them to have a positive, independent influence on their own therapy.
